CHANNEL SWIM
LADY DOCTOR’S CLAIM PARIS PRESS SCEPTICAL BY TELEGBAPH.—PEES3 ASSOCIATION. CoPYRJGtU. London, October 12. Baris newspapers have taken up an extraordinary attitude towards Dr. Dorothy Logan’s Channel swim, coming almost unanimously tv the conclusion that it was a fake. They base this on. the testimony of members of the signal post at Cape Gnsnez, who declare that no swimmer could have left the coast in (he afternoon or evening because the water was too cold. Some papers insinuate that the majority ot Channel swimmers hang on to the escorting boat for the greater part of the journey, and assert that the only authentic crossing was that of the Frenchman, Georges Alichel, who had a legal and official boat. ‘ This incident has caused British newspapers to publish statements from tbe semaphore keeper at Grisncz and also the light house-keeper to the effect that they saw the lights of the boat, together with a dark lorm iu the water. They also discovered on the beach grease tins, the contents of which were used to protect tlie .swimmer against the cold. It is also pointed out that there were three disinterested ami prominent persons in the accompanying boat, including 'Captain Adams, II.N.
