SOLICITOR EXONERATED

TROUBLE OVER A MORTGAGE. The Court of Appeal was engaged yes. terday in hearing an application by thg Law 'Society to strike oil the rolls Frederick Coles Jordan, barrister and solicitor, of .‘Auckland. Mr. A. Blair, who appeared for the Law Society, stated that Jordan had acted as solicitor for two men who, it was alleged, were involved m a fraudulent land deal. Mr. G. P. Findlay (Auckland), who appeared for Jordan, contended that his client had, on the instructions of the two men, prepared a mortgage over which all the trouble had arisen. He had acted in a bona fide manner throughout the proceedings, and had been absolutely frank when . trouble arose. Counsel urged that his client was clearly an innocent man. Mr. Justice Sim. who delivered the judgment of the Court, said that th© Court had come to the conclusion that Jordan had acted without realising the impropriety of his action. He would therefore be acquitted of any intentional wrongdoing, but the Court would mark its disapproval by ordering Jordan to pay the costs of tho proceedings.
