The Southern Cross landed in the Mills Field here, after a non-stop flight from Tacoma. Lieutenant Kingsford Smith piloted the airship, which carried four passengers. Smith was greeted by Anderson, Ulin, and Todd. October 18 has been set as the tentative date for the start of the flight to Australia. Smith has not yet decided whether to leave from Mills Field or Oakland Airport. ’ Honolulu, October 11. The United States Army authorities are planning all possible assistance for Smith and Wheeler Field, installing, a radio beacon for guidance in the air, and ground searchlights to help in landing, in addition to the use of mechanical facilities in the field.
