A verdict of suicide by drowning was returned by the Coroner, Mr. H. P. Lawry, this morning at the conclusion of the inquest concerning tho death of Lionel Vivian Comerford, an accountant, whose body was found in the Waimakariri River about a mile below Stewart’s Gullv yesterday. The police stated that Comerford was last seen on September 29. A warrant had been issued for his arrest on a charge of theft of A. 300 from Ward s branch of N.Z. Breweries, Ltd. A letter found in deceased's coat on the river bank on October 1 was addressed to tho manager of Ward’s. If contained a statement regarding the shortages, but there was no mention .of suicide.
