MANY LEAVING FARMS IN NELSON

Nelson, October 12.

The position of soldier-settlers in the district was discussed at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Nelson Provincial Farmers’ Union. The president (Mr. J. Pagan) stated that 9Z had abandoned their farms m Waimea County since January last. The following resolution was passed: “This executive views with great concern the result of Crown land settlement (including .soldier settlement) in the Nelson district. With a view to substantially improving their chances of success as Crown tenants the executive asks the Government to forthwith set up a commission under the Commiss : on of Inquiry Act to . make an exhaustive investiga'ion into the Crown lands settlement in the Nelson land district, such, commission to be presided over by a Judge of the Supreme Court and to make such recommendations as it sees fit.”
