GIPPSLAND TRAGEDY
SUPPOSED FIGHT WITH
FERN-HOOKS
(Rec. October 6, 8;5 p.m.)
Melbourne, October 6.
An Italian fern-cutter, Antonio Excrecti, was found in a lonely gully at Abshott, Gippsland, shockingly mutilated, with two blood-stained fernhooks beside him. He died before he could be removed to hospital. A ganger in charge of a number of Italians who were fern cutting stated that he missed Excrecti and another Italian. He searched for them and came upon deceased. It is surmised that the men entered the gully and after a dispute a desperate fight with fernhooks occurred. The police are scouting the heavily-wooded district for the missing man.
AN ARREST MADE
(Rec. October 6, 11.35 p.m.)
Melbourne, October 6. A man has been arrested in connection with the death of Excrecti.
