BICYCLE OUT OF CONTROL

HEALTH INSPECTOR BADLY INJURED

Christchurch, October 6.

Through his bicycle getting beyond his control, wltile riding dow.n the steep slope of Dublin Street, Lyttelton, this morning, Inspector Richard James McKenzie, of the staff of the Department of Health, Christchurch, received severe injuries, and now lies in a critical condition in the Christchurch Hospital. Inspector McKenzie, with another inspector, had been taking samples of milk. They were riding their bicycles down Dublin Street when Mr. McKenzie shot past, calling out that his brake had failed. Cycle and rider crashed with terrific force into the stone wall above the tunnel. Mr. McKenzie was picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the casualty war 1, where he was found to have sustained a fiveinch wound across the forehead and other injuries. He was later removed to the Christchurch Hospital, and his condition this evening was still serious. Mr. McKenzie is a married man, 03 years of age, and resides at 117 Main Road', Redcliffs.
