Dirnnovirkd, October 5. Dannevirke Defence Rifle Club annual meeting re-elected the club patron, Mi. E A Ransom, M.P.; its vice-patrons, Mr. A. J. C. Runciman and Mr. A. W. McNico); president, Mr. £>■ McNabb, deputy-president, Mr. O.G. Hoggard; vicepresidents, Messrs. F. G. Cowper. J. Carnabv- Frederick Franklin, Ford Franklin, K. Millar, A. McLean, A. R. 0. Clandge, W A Pickard, B. Knight, and u. r. Alder'; treasurer, Mr. L. W. Ward; and secretary. Mr. J. Munro. To the committee, Messrs. P. J. Motley, W. J. Fisher, C. Mercer, and F. T. Brewer, wcie-elect-ed; and Mr. H. M. Rossiter was appointed ammunition keeper, and Mr. A. W. Boniface handicapper. . The first of the cycle road races in the competition for the Boomerang Cup was held yesterday in very good weather, there being little wind and not too much sunshine. The course was via High and Rawhiti Streets, Taradale, and Adelaide Roads, and via Smith Street into High Street again, the wind assisting for the tiaj’or portion of the distance, which had, to to covered twice. Eleven competitors entered, and the race resulted . as follows:—H. Pope (Imin. lOsec.). 31min. 7sec., 1; W. Grant (2ruin. ssec.), 31inin. 7 3-ssec„ 2; and A. Griffiths (scr.), 31min. 38scc„. 3. The fastest time was that of the third man. Other competitors were: R. L. Hollvman. N. Davidson. P. B. Goodman, V. O’Connell R. Evcrnden, A. Coldstream, R. FaJrbrother, G. Paris, R. Ball, and G. L. Drinkwater. Mr. O. B. Couling. of the money order department in the local Post Office, has received notice of his transfer to Hamiltion, and will shortly take up his new duties. He has been nine years with the local office. Mr. 0. Foster, of Pahiatua, has replaced Mr. A. C. Downing on the telegraph staff of the Dannevirke Post Office, the latter having becu.i transferred to Marton.
