SCOUT HONOURS
TROOP LEADER MJ&AGHEN DECORATED.
Scouts from all over Wellington gathered in tho Town Hall last night, when His Excellency tho Governor-General Sir Charles Fergusson, presented Troop Leader A. Meachen with tho “Cornwall” decoration, during an interval in a concert. His Excellency said that it gave him preat pleasure to give the badge to tho troop leader, especially since it was the first occasion on which this particular badge had been presented to any Scout in the Dominion. Troop Leader Meachen had won tho badge entirely through hits exertions, carried out under a great physical handicap. “If anyone deserves this high honour, ’ ho said. “Troop Leader Meachou is tho man.” (Loud applause.) 1 want all Scouts to learn a lesson from him. Every one of you can rise, as high as he has. but you won’t do it except by your own energy and pluck. Meachen has shown himself to bo a New Zealander of whom every one of us is proud.” His Excellency then called for three cheers for Troop Leader Meachen, to whom he presented an autograph photograph of himself. Major-General Sir Alfred Robin was among those present.
