SEASON OPENING ON SATURDAY.
Owing to the early date set down for the New Zealand championships this rear, the athletic season is opening earlier than usual, the Wellington centre staging their initial programme at the Basin Reserve on Saturday next. During the progress of the meeting the finish of the Palmerston North to Wellington road race will bo witnessed, the first man fo arrive being expected at about 4 p.m. Included in a full sports programme are championship sprint events for footballers and lady hockey players. . In view of the big events ahead, several of the competitors have kept in form during the winter season, so that keen racing is assured. The first event is timed to commence at 2.30 p.m.
