The Hon. W. Stewart,/ M.L.C., arrived in Wellington from Auckland yesterday. 1
Mr. C. J. B. Norwood,;.who has'been confined to his home for a few days with illness, left yesterday with Mrs. Norwood for Mastertori. The Rev. G. E. Moreton and Dr. A. R. Falconer, ot Dunedin, arrived in Wellington yesterday '-morning to attend the Dominion Executive meeting of St. John Ambulance.
Mr. R. P. Hudson- M.P., and Sirs. Hudson have -returned from Motueka, where they spent the week-end. Professor Edward John Glynn has been appointed Provost of Trinity College, Dublin (states a Press Association message from London). He has been a fellow of the college since 1893, and lecturer in Celtic languages since 1907. lit was Commissioner of National Education from 1905-15. He is 59 years old. Miss Margaret Beavan, known locally as “Little Mother,” who has devoted a lifetime to social work in Liverpool, has been elected . first woman Lord Mayor of that city, says a Sydnev “Sun” Cable.
’The Dominion superintendent of the New Zealand Shipping Company annonced at Christchurch yesterdaji thatat a meeting of the New Zealand board of directors held to-day it was decided that Mr. Huntly J. H. Elliott, manager of the company at Christchurch, will retire on superannuation. He had had ■l3 years’ service with the company, having joined as a junior at Wellington in 1884. He will be succeeded by Mr. ITuniplircv Holderness, at present manager at Gisborne.—Press Association.
