NEW SHOW BUILDING
PORTION FOR NEXT WINTER
At Monday night's meeting of the Wellington Show Association it was decided to proceed at once to raise the necessary loan to erect the building and carry out the reading and other works ready t'or the next Winter Show. On account of the short time available the Committee has decided to build the main portion at once, leaving the front wing to follow later, as on account of tho piling and other work necessary ‘it is not thought possible io have this front portion and the main building completed for next winter. The building to be proceeded with will cover approximately 91,600 square feet on one floor, with a mezzanine floor for tea rooms and dance hall of another 13,000 square feet, and approximately 20,000 square feet in the basement. This will give a. total floor area of 127,000 square feet, 54,000 square feet greater than the Pipitea Wharf Shed. The total cost of the present proposals, including roads, excavations, fencing, etc., is approximately £48,000. The necessary sum in debentures bearing interest at 8 per cent, with a currency of 10 years, will bo placed on the market at once, and as quite a largo amount has been already applied for it is anticipated that the loan will be readily subscribed and the committee enabled to let a tender early in December next.
