CITY MILK SUPPLY

In this morning’s issue of The Dominion reference is made to a contentious clause contained in an amending Bill to the Shops and Offices Act which the City Council at .the instigation of its Milk Committee is attempting to get through the House, hoping thereby to strike another blow at its more humble competition. Does it not strike you as strange that this wonderful organisation which has achieved such meritorious attainments and is boosted through every municipality in New Zealand and Australia* cannot do anything of merit or. otherwise without having Acts of Parliament created or altered in its favour? This latest attempt certainly is “over the odds,” for this, if carried, will be operative throughout New Zealand. Your report would lead one to believe that tho milk delivery commenced at 4 a.m., but this is not the case, although the Act states 4 a.m. The Wellington City Council have been commencing their deliveries at 2 a.m., and now ask that the 4 a.m. clause shall not applv in the case of milkmen. Can the chairman of the Milk Committee wonder and complain that he is thwarted by the farmer at every move he makes. The council's milk staff milk no cows, and have no farm duties to attend to, and yet they have the temerity to approach the House praying for what amounts to a four hour start on the average farmer who retails his own supply. I sincerely hope that the House metes out to these aspiring gentlemen the necessary rebuke when their precious amendment comes up for co aside.’at ion. —I am, etc., E BEAVIS.
