Sir,—As an offset to the implication that Christian Science deals chiefly with what are termed "imaginary” ailments, mad 0 bv Professor Hunter in his lecture on "Psychology/’ which was recently reported in your columns, will you allow mo to quote the follow opinions? Dr. Richard C. Cabot, Professor of Clinical Medicine and of Social Ethics in Harvard University: The good effects of Christian Science 1 see on all sides. I >iave not the slightert douot that it does good, that it cures disease, organic as well as functional, only I do rot want anybody to say: “And nothing else cures.” .... Dr. Charles Hunter, Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine, University of Manitoba: “Christian Science nas helped many persons suffering from disease which, to the medical practitioner, had defied diagnosis. . . . Christian Science, furthermore, has brought relief to individuals who were victims of organic disease, proving that psychotherapy is not solely confined to functional diseases.” ~ „ _,. Dr. Drummond Shields, M.P. for Edinburgh, said in the British House of Commons: "Some of the most remarkable cases I know of, wonderful cures, have been in connection with Christian Science, which I have seen myself a»d know." Christian Science, moreover, deals fully with the vagaries of the mental state which St. Paul calls "the carnal mind,” and proves that the ills for which it is responsible are healed by replacing it by "that mind which was also in Christ Jesus," and which heals both sickness and sin.—l am, etc., MADGE BELL.
