MINORITY MOVEMENT

UNDERMINING INFLUENCE DENOUNCED

. BY CHAIRMAN OF BRITISH LABOUR CONFERENCE BOWING DISCORD IN TRADE UNIONS The chairman of the conference of the British f abour Party, in bis address, denounces the undermining influence of the minority movement, which has energetically intrigued to sow discord throughout the trade unions. BY Telegraph.—Pbess association. (Copyright.) London, October 2. The Labour Party’s Conference opens to-morrow at Blackpool. Mr. F. Roberts, M.P., chairman, in his address, denounces the undermining influence of the minority movement, which, he says, is endeavouring to destroy confidence in responsible leadership, and has energetically intrigued to sow discord throughout trade unions, but to-day the industrial movement is solidly behind the political movement. Neither will it allow itself to be destroyed by enemies either within or without the gates. The Government’s foreign policy, Mr. Roberts declares, has been a dismal failure. Its_ hypocritical attitude towards Russia has lowered the dignity of the British Empire, and its ' policy in China is alternately bullying and soft words. Sir Austen Chamberlain, he adds,, has placed Britain in a position of more than isolation on the League of Nations, which is the only secure foundation for world peace.—A.P.A. and “Sun.”YOUNG COMMUNISTS RETURN FROM RUSSIA ' ENAMOURED OF SOVIET METHODS London. October 2. The young Communists who visited Russia have returned, and, despite a lack of passports, were allowed * to land at London Bridge. Each of the children was wearing a red scarf, a picture of Lenin, and • a new suit of clothes provided by the young Communists of Russia. Clifford Roberts, twelve years of age, expressed admiration for the Soviet school system. No canes were used, and discipline was maintained bv pupils’ councils. Nancy Hall, thirteen, said that the most thrilling treat was seeing a ballet at Leningrad from the Tsar’s box. Billy Baker, a Londoner, said that Russia taught working class history. “Here, he said, “we get boss history about dead kings. There .they teach that vou are not descended from God, but from monkeys.” Norman- Paton, twelve, gave his opinion that “revolution is the only hope.of this world.”
