f u PROPOSED NEW BRIDGE. Dominion Special Service. Chrisicnurcn. ticiooer 3. The Minister of Marino <Uou. G. J. Anderson) to-day had a coiiferenee with representatives of local bodies interested in the question of providing a greater clearance under the now ferro concrete bridge, which tho New Brighton Borough Council proposes to erect over the Avon River at Seaviow Road, the direct route from tho city to the seaside. The provision for a four feet clearance was the subject of recent litigation, lhe conference reached an amicable agreement. whereby the Christchurch City Council will decide on either a feet or 7 feet clearance alxive high-water at an additional cost of X5OOO or £7OOO respectively, all of which will be found by the City Council. Thia will enable the larger type of boats to make use of the river above tho eatuarT.
Miss M. Fielding, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Fielding, of Wellington, will leave to-day by the Tainui for ’ Colon, from which place she will go to Havana, her marriage to an officer of the American Navy taking place there soon after her arrival.
