BRITISH FILMS

Sir,—Certain New Zealanders who are interested in American film importing companies are also very much interested in locking up the theatres against competition. They have succeeded in locking up the theatres in a good many of our principal cities already, and one has only to inquire to find out how disgusted the citizens of those towns are now at the pictures shewn Cheap pictures and high prices of admission mean big profits. It is to be hoped that tho Government will stick to the film tax and so give preference to British films in a British country for British people. I think before long the public themselves will, if necessary break the stranglehold on the theatres, even if it means municipal theatres controlled by the citizens. Wo have to thank the Government of this country for nt least trying to encourage- British films and helping us to educate our young people in British ideals instead of American. —I nm. etc., ANOTHER BRITISHER. Masterton, September 28.
