FIRE AT LYALL BAY

RESIDENCE AND TEAROOMS .DESTROYED At about 3.30 yesterday morning the Fire Brigade received a call to 60 The Parade, Lyall Bay, a six-roomed wooden building, used’as a private residence and tea rooms, and occupied by Mrs. Mary Christie. The building and contents were totally destroyed. The insurance on the building is £l3OO in the Phoenix office,’ and on the' furniture £llOO in the Standard' office. It is understood that the cause of the outbreak was a spark from the kitchen range igniting clothing. The premises were owned by Mrs. A. Rowell. FIRE ON ANAMBA LITTLE DAMAGE DONE. A small outbreak of fire on the Anamba, which is lying at the Pipitea Wharf out of commission, occurred last night. The watchman noticed smoke emerging from the firemen’s mess-room and investigated. Fortunately the flames had not secured a good hold, and the fire was extinguished before much damage was done.
