HUTT ROAD BUSES

Sir,—l hope that the rumour that the Government proposes the purchase of the above is only a rumour.. I for one, and a good many more, will be verydisappointed to see the present service discontinued. For 20 years or more I have had a 20 minutes’ tramp to and from the railway station twice a day, now I can step into a bus at my front gate, a good fifteen minutes’ service being maintained. As the buses are so well patronised it must be the best proposition to the traveller. There is no earthly use talking about using, the buses as feeders to the railway; it is nothing more nor less, than humbug in comparison to tbe direct trip. What about the people near the Hutt Road between Petone and the city, and what a boon the present service is to all the people from the Hutt Valley who wish to travel on the Auckland and Pal* merston trains—their bags and baggage are taken aud dropped almost on the station platform, and this almost to a minute before the trains depart. I hope that all tbe people who use the buses are up in arms against this interference •he Government, unless the Government is taking over this transit and running it direct as at present, and ntintie to do so. Would it not be better still to take over the City-Kai-warra section of the electric buses and continue this along the Hutt Road, and encircle the whole Hutt Valley on itnmen tracks? This should prove an excellent ’ proposition. Posts for carrying the wires are already in position' oh both sides of the road nearly all the way out.—l am, etc., A. T. PEARSON. Wellington, September 9.
