TRAINS RUNNING
BUT SOUTH JOHNSTONE DISPUTE NOT SETTLED BAD EFFECTS OF STRIKE Bt Telegraph.— press association. Copyright. (Rec. September 12, 7.30 p.m.) Brisbane, September 12. Trains have recommenced running. There was a full attendance all day on Sunday at the Commissioner’s offices of strikers to sign a declaration to abide by the Commissioner’s orders. Although the railway strike has ended, the men at South Johnstone express themselves indignant at the railwaymen’s return to work. They say the South Johnstone strike is no nearer a settlement than weeks ago, and they will explore other avenues for support. A meeting of the Trades and Labour Council decided to take steps to form an Industrial Labour Party, and a congress of all unions is being convened for this object. As a result of the strike many businesses which had been only just able to keep going have dismissed numbers of employees, and it is stated that these will not "be reemployed. The effect on the railwavs is also disastrous, as people have discovered that motor transport in'tnanv instances is better and cheaper than rail and they wil luot return to the railways.
