Auckland is shortly to have a permanent room set apart exclusively for art exhibitions (reports, the "New Zealand Herald”) This will be i>» the room at the Public Art Gallery which lias hitherto held the Russell collection of statuary. The room has already been emptied of its exhibits, which have been withdrawn by the Auckland museum authorities, some to be placed in the museum and some in the School of Art. The room, which measures 36ft by 23ft., will have an entrance direct from the street and will lie lit by electricity so that it may be available for exhibitions at night, rhe first exhibition to be held under the new conditions will probably bo one pt Japancse prints. It is hoped that, in course of time the gallery will be in demand tor art exhibitions throughout the greater part of the year.
