LYALL BAY AFFAIRS

PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION MEETING. The monthly meeting of tho Lyall Bay Progressive Association was held last Thursday, Mr. J. 11. BurgoyneThomas presiding. , t. r The Secretary to the General Post Office wrote stating that the associalion’s request for the installation, of, a public call cabinet near- the district post office in Onepu Road could not be acceded to. It was decided to proceed further with the request. Information furnished by the tramway traffic manager in regard to the Lyall Bay tram service was, thoroughly appreciated, and members agwsed that the district was being well served under the existing conditions. A better service will be available when the carbuilding programme is completed. The secretary was instructed to write to the City Council seeking further information in respect to a. library site for the district, and to point out that the most suitable sections were being gradually disposed of. It was reported that nsphalters were busy repairing the broken footpaths in tho district. The city engineer reported that Queen’s Drive had been scarified and rolled, and that instructions had been issued for a. wire stand to lie put in between tho top of the concrete wall and the galvanised iron pipe rail in Crawford Road. Tho carnival arrangements are well in hand, and a meeting of residents will be called by advertisement during the month to elect sub-coramittecs.
