BOATING SHEDS
PBTOSE BEACH RECTAL tr.OTESTED AGAINST.
A deputation of members of the Heretaunga Boat Club and other persons who have boating and bathing sheds on the I’etono beach waited on the I’etono Borough Council last night to protest against the rental of per shed pel annum imposed by the council. Mr. J. W. McEwan (who introduced the deputation) asked tho council to reconsider the new charge for tho sheds. He stated' that boating clubs had among their members many young wen who were eager to further the sport. Under tho circumstances he thought that an excessive charge should not bo made, as the majority of the young people could not afford to pay out much money. , , . , .. Mr J McDonald, who stated the case for tho Herctaunga Boat Club, said ho was of opinion that if the council’s charges were given effect to, then tho Herctaunga Boat Club would go out of existence The views of owners of other sheds Were voiced by Mr. J. O’Connor, who corroborated Mr. McEwan s statement. He said that he had worked out tho rental which would be oharg’ed per acre , should the council enforce these new r.harges. The iprice would l>e nearly <£3ooo per acre, which, he added. was more than exorbitant. In replying to the deputation, the Mayor stated that the matter would receivo the council’s serious consideiation.
