MAGISTRATE’S COURT

POLICE, CIVIL AND BY-LAW CASES Mi*. J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M., dealt with the police cases in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Patrick Darcy, a slaughterman, aged 36. and Francis Louis Murphy, a barman, aged 40, were each fined £1 for fighting in the street. Darcy was also convicted and discharged for a first offence of drunkenness. Rangiamo Frank Martin, a storeman, aged 29, who pleaded not guilty to a charge of indecent assault upon a male, was committed to Lhe Supreme Court for trial. Bail was renewed in the sum of £l5O, with one surety of a similar amount. For being found on licensed premises after hours. Jack Waites was fined £2 and costs. , , Breaches of the by-laws were dealt with by Messrs. J. E. Staples and Huggins, J.P.’s, yesterday afternoon. William James Blackman was fined £1 for having no driver’s license. He was convicted and ordered to pay 10s. costs on a charge of negligently driving a motor-lorry. William Beck was fined £1 and costs for dangerous driving. For exceeding the speed limit, William James Jones was fined £2 and costs.
