WANGANUI WOOL SALE
VERY KEEN BIDDING.-
By Telegraph.—Ph ess association.
Wanganui, January 21. The second Wanganui wool sale of the 1920-27 season opened at 4 p.m. to-day, a large catalogue of 25,000 bales being offered to a full bench of buyers. Bidding was very keen, showing evidence that many buyers are operating on the same limits. Prices were firm on the Napier rates, with prices for finer grades satisfactory to growers. All classes of wool were in demand, Bradford taking a big share, while Italy and Germany played a more prominent part than usual. The sale is proceeding.
The Farmers’ Co-operative Distributing Co. report: “We held our second sale of the present season in Wanganui this afternoon, our catalogue comprising some 3000 bales of fair average selection. Competition was. extremely keen, and animated, all sections of the trade operating. As compared with the last sale here, the lots were distinctly dealer, but were about on a par with rates ruling at the last Napier and Wellington sales. The wool was in fair condition, but many otherwise - good lots were marred bv seed, most wool, showing evidence of this, s °“ e ° these lots were a little difficult to dispose of at late rates. Lambs’ woo! so d extremelv well, France competing with Bradford'for any good lots, and P occasionally were very good indeed An extremelv satisfactory clearance was effected on the whole, about 90 per cen . of our catalogue being disposed of unde the hammer at, in view of the trade conditions obtaining in Great B.rtam and on the Continent, prices which must be considered satisfactory.
