AUCKLAND RAINSOAKED
WATERWORKS DAMAGED MILE OF RAILWAY DESTROYED HOLIDAY PROSPECTS BAD Dominion Special. Auckland, December 26. From the viewpoint of weather, Auckland is having its worst Christmas for many years. Rain has fallen steadily all the time and still continues. An exhibition tennis match between New South Wales and Auckland yesterday had to be postponed. Despite heavy rain that had fallen, the New South Wales players, -in order not to disappoint the fair number of spectators who had assembled, went out on to the court to play the doubles match, but they had been out only two or three minutes when down came a terrific downpour and there was a scamper for the pavilion. Further effort at play was hopeless and indeed the courts are so sodden and conditions are still so wet and threatening that it does not seem that the New Zealand tennis championships ran possibly be commenced to-morrow. On the top of the wretched conditions in the city, startling reports reached Auckland this morning of severe damage to the water supply system in the ranges.
