A new stamping machine has been installed at the Chief Post Office, Dunedin (says an exchange). It is a compact machine, driven by a dynamo, and is capable ot stamping 800 envelopes per minute, and recording the numbers passed through the machine. The impression over the stamp is clearer. The old stamper was faster, but more cumbersome, and was non-recording. Men who have worked in the mailrooms for years welcome the machine, _ after hours of .hand stamping and blisters. An amusing incident happened hallway through the recent Staveley sports (savs the “Ashburton Guardian”). The officials had had some difficulty in making ‘‘Stand .back, there, please!” efficacious, but a swarm of bees flying low across the ground cleared the course like lightning. Afterwards one who had run crowd was overheard expatiating: “Ycu know they won’t hurt you if vou don’t fuss.” British tennis balls are never used in America for official matches. Ayres “Championship” Balls are always used at Davis Cup matches in Australasia.— Advt. (7)
