HEAD-ON COLLISION
4 -— MOTORIST’S NARROW ESCAPE FROM DEATH Dominion Special. Christchurch, December 21. A head-on collision between a motorcar and a traincar occurred on the Lincoln Road last evening. The driver of the car James Morrison Wilkie, a dentist, of Ashburton, had his right leg broken and is now in the Christchurch Hospital. Wilkie had a narrow escape from death. There was a drizzling rain falling al the time, and apparently the view of the drivers was obscured to a certain extent. The front wheels of the car were torn off, the engine damaged, and the steering wheel and the windscreens were both broken. Considerable damage was also done to the front of the tramcar. Motorman Williams had a narrow escape. A passenger on the tram is suffering from shock.
