ONE MONTH TO PAY. Dominion Special. Christchurch, December 21. William Stewart Langley took a number of small bets on the New Brighton races on Saturday, which resulted in his appearance before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court to-day charged with frequenting a passage leading to the auction room of Macfarlane and Co., Lichfield Street, for the purpose of betting. He pleaded guilty. Detective-Sergeant J. B. Young said that Detectives Allen and Sltidliolme visited the room and found Langley in the act of making entries in notebooks. The books were, examined arid were found to contain a number of “double” entries and bets. Langlev had also a double chart for the New Rrirditon races and an acceptance card. The entries showed that he had taken bets to the amount of about £S. He had not been before the Court previously. The Magistrate imposed a fine of £2O and costs, allowing accused a month in which to pay.
