The members of the Central Club gave their annual children’s Christmas party yesterday afternoon in the club rooms, which were decorated appropriately for the occasion. Balloons in gold and silver and scarlet were everywhere, and afterwards were given to the children. Blue delphiniums were also part of the decorative scheme, and the flowers went to the hospital later. The children sat down to a sumptuous tea, ice cream included, and then Father Christmas came down the chimney and was welcomed by the president of the club. He at once proceeded to distribute gifts, and each child received a beautiful toy to take home. Charming bonbons in the shape of paper-dressed dolls were handed to the ladies present. Two Maori shearers —the Haeata brothers—have just put up some fine shearing records at Mr. Les. Donald’s farm, near ifasterton (reports -an exchange). One day one put through 306, and the other 299, the sheep being Romneys with good heavy fleeces. Good cheer for one and all. Sunflower Seeded Raisins for cakes and puddings. —Advt. (10).
