.4 POLICE AND BY-LAW CASES Palmerston North, December 6. A sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was held this morning before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M.. when police and by-law cases were dealt with. A fine of 10s. with costs 75., was imposed on Walter Oliver for cycling on >ic tootpath. James Burr left a motor-car on the wrong side of the street, and in consequence paid 10s. and costs 7s. Charged with carrying a passenger on the rear of a motor-cycle, Sidney Drake was ordered to pay £1 and costs 7s. Walter Mitchell was mulcted in the sum of £1 with costs 7s. for leaving a motor-car standing more than ten feet from the kerb. Tlie following were each fined 10s. and costs 7e. for cycling at night without a light: Hjarne Christensen, Robert Mitchell. R. Remington, C. Gore and Stanley Gallichan. The Inspector of Factories took action against tho Palmerston North Borough Council on two charges of failing to register an apprentice under the electrical workers’ award. It was stated tliat the breach was but a technical one, and a Gne of £l, with costs, was imposed in each case. William Campbell pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to stop at the railway crossing on Cliff Road, Greatford, when '■e lino was not clear. He was ordered to pay £4 and costs £1 Bs. James Maxwell was fined £2, in default U days’ imprisonment, for being found on the licensed premises of the Railway Hotel during the currency o. his prohibition order. On a further count of procuring linuor while pro hibited. he was convicted and discharged.
