/The incident ot the Maori woman at Kaiwhaiki, reported by ieiegrain from Wangauui, recalls a similar one which happened some years ago when the old hospital was situated on the river bank in chat town (says an exchange). A Maori woman was brought from the same pa to the hospital, and was supposed to have died, but she made a speedy recovery, and was taken back to the pa. Some little time later she agim became very ill, and was supposed to have died on the way to the hospital. The Maoris were very alarmed about the vagaries of the woman, and hurriedly Reeking out tbe man at the hospital whose duty it was to see that the deed bodies were coffined, they said: “Napi, napi ibis time quirk, in case she came to lif® again.” The “napi. napi” was meant as an instruction to get the nails into tbe coffin as quickly as possible.
