PEACE OR WAR?
CRISIS IN RUMANIA QUESTION OF REGENCY IF KING ABDICATES COUNTRY BITTERLY DIVIDED BY TELEGRAPH.—PBESS ASSOCIATION. Copyright. Paris, December 2. It is reported that Queen Marie secretly interviewed Prince Carol for half an hour at a friend’s house. Bucharest, December 2. The arrival oi Dr. Hartmann on Friday and Queen Marie on Saturday is likely to decide the issue oi peace or war in Rumania. Dr. Hartmann’s examination will decide whether the King shall abdicate or try to carry on, after which Queen Marie will settle the Regency question. The country is bitterly divided over the question of the Regency. General Mirccscu (War Minister) is believed to be too sympathetic to Prince Carol’s claims, and has been sent on a prolonged tour .of Bessarabia for fear he might use his influence with the army in Prince Carol’s favour M. Averescu (Premier) is taking over the War Office.
Meanwhile, M. Bratianu, the Liberal leader, is the man behind the Throne. He says that the question of Prince Carol’s return is dead, as the issue of renunciation has been accepted by the Government, Parliament, and the King, who has written to M Averescu that he will not tolerate Prince Carol’s return.
A message from Paris denies the report of the meeting between Queen Marie and Prince Carol.
