HOSPITAL BOARD SECRETARY

RESIGNATION RECEIVED A special meeting of the Wellington Hospital Board was held yesterday to •consider the resignation of the secretary, Mr. J. Coyle, who has received an appointment as secretary-superintend-ent of the hospital at Newcastle, New South Wales. Air. Coyle has been secretary of the Wellington Hospital Board for 17? years. The board received the resignation with regret, gave Mr. Coyle four weeks’ leave of absence, and also three months’ salary, on retirement to mark its appreciation of his services during his connection with the board.

In moving that the resignation be accepted, the chairman, Mr. C. M. Lake, said that it would be a wrench to the board to part with Mr Coyle, who had rendered invaluable service to the board and the community His duties had been discharged cheerfully and courteously, and in such .a way as to gain the approbation of the board, the medical staff of the hospital, and the public generally. Mr. Coyle had been identified for many years with the progress of the institution, and he deeply regretted his departure. The salary offered by the Newcastle authorities had, however, precluded competition in that respect, and the Wellington Hospital Board could not stand in the way of Mr. Coyle’s advancement. He felt sure that the good wishes of the board would be with Mr. Coyle in his new sphere. TJie Rev. H. van Staveren said that Mr. Coyle could look back on a successful, and happy, career in the board’s service, and on duty well done. He trusted that in his successor the board would find a man who would live up to the traditions Mr. Coyle had established in connection with the secretaryship. All the other members present at the meeting also spoke in approval of Mr. Covle’s work, while the medical superintendent, Dr. D. M. Wilson, made reference to the cordial relations that had always existed between the secretary and the medical stall. Mr. R. Brown, who now holds the position of accountant to the board, was appointed secretary, pro tern.
