It would appear that this season's weather is creating a record in the matter of adverse effects upon crops of various kinds and in different localities. The latest district to suffer is the Heathcote Valley, near Christchurch which recently experienced heavy, hail and rain (says an exchange). The hailstorm was the worst experienced for 20 rears, and tomato crops suffered severely. The peach and apricot orchards had already been considerably damaged by frosts earlier in the espring, and had been falling off steadily ever since. It is stated that the crops will be only one-third of the usual size. The cherry trees were saved from any considerable damage by the netting, but it is stated that if there is much more wet weather the cherries and the rest of the tomatoes will damn off.
On Saturday the Suburbs Rifle Club will fire the second match of the second series at 500 and 600 yards.
