PARI-MUTUEL FRAUDS
ASTONISHING PROFITS MADE (Rec. October 14. 7.35 p.m.) Paris, October 13. Astonishing pari-mutuel frauds at l.ongchamps and Atiteuil resulted in the arrest of five men. whose nefarious profi.s are reckoned at several million fiancs in the last two years. They employed assistants to issue betting vouchers at pari-mutuel booths at salaries of 50 f.ancs a day. They kept several blank tickets bearing the number of each horse .in the race, and directly the result of a r. ce was known sufficient money was laid on the winner to cover the losses on the losing ticket and leave a margin. Often a single race yielded a profit of 20.0C0 francs.
