The bush fires now completely encircle Brisbane, and a thick pall of smoke has settled over the city, making it impossible to see more than the length of the street, while on the river the position is more acute and navigation has been rettde-ed extremely difficult. IN NEW SOUTH WALES TELEGRAPHIC SERVICES INTERRUPTED Sydney, October 14.. Huge bush fires are reported in the northern part of the State. The whole country from the Queensland bolder to Tabulam, across the Tooloo Range, is ablaze. Unconfirmed reports state that some houses were burnt. All telegraphic communication is cut off. There has been little rain for months, and the country is exceedingly dry. WIDESPREAD DEVASTATION FEARED (Rec. October 11, 11-20 p.m.) Sydney, October 14. Bush fires continue to rage along the North Coast, causing extensive damage. So far there have beer, no fatalities, but unless the blaze is speedilv checked widespread devastation will be caused. Telephonic and telegraphic communication is badly interrupted. FLOODS IN THE SOUTH THREAT TO ADELAIDE SUBURBAN RESIDENTS WARNED (Rec. October 14, 11.20 p.m.) Adelaide, October 14. Following on torrential rains, flood waters are rushing down the Torre.ns and are expected to teach the city to-night. Residents in the low-lying suburbs have been warned to evacuate their homes. TASMANIAN RIVERS IN FLOOD (Rec. October 14, 11.20 p.m.) Hobart, October 14. Continuous heavy rains throughout the East Coast districts have resulted in all the rivers being flooded.
