The Minister of Agriculture (Hon. O. <T. Hawken) left Wellington yesterday on a short visit to Hawera. The Postmaster-General (Hon. W. Nosworthyj returned from the south yesterday. The Minister of Labour (Hon. G. J. Anderson) returned from Auckland by the Limited express yesterday. A “Sun” cable message from Vancouver states that Professor Macmillan Brown, Chancellor of the New Zealand University, will sail to-day to attend the Science Congress at Tok'io. Air. Culford Bell, who is to adjudicate at the Auckland Competitions, left for the north vesterdav.

The Ashburton Presbvtery has nominated the Rev. W. Shirer, of Wellington, as Moderator of the General Assembly for 1926-27.—Press Assn. The funeral took place yesterday morning of the late Air. Wilfred Cooper, one of the pioneers of the Labour movement in Wellington, who died at his residence, Woburn road, Northland, on Monday last, aged 58 years. The deceased, who for many years held the positions of president and secretary of the Wellington Painters’ Union, and of the New Zealand Painters’ Federation, had also been president and secretary of the Wellington Trades Council. He was highly respected, and there was a representative attendance of Labour men at his funeral this morning The members of the Painters’ Union supplied the pall-bearers. The Rev. G. Stowell officiated at the graveside at Karori.

The Presbytery of Central Otago, at a meeting at Alexandra on Tuesday night, unanimously agreed to nominate the Rev. A. Bruce Todd, of Wellington, as Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbvterian Church of New Zealand for 1027.—Special Correspondent.
