Au incident which has caused some excitement among the workers on the Great South Road between Pokeno and Mercer, has been a discovery of coal. In a breast-cutting about 15ft. deep, a small deposit leading into the face was unearthed, and some small pieces of bright hard coal were obtained as samples (says an exchange). The cutting shows two very small patches of powdery coal, about 2tn. long and half an inch deep.
