The Governor-General and Lady Alice Fergusson motored from Picton to Blenheim yesterday.morning. They were met on the outskirts by the pipe band and played to the Square, where the Mavor and chairman of the County Council' officially welcomed Their Excellencies to the district. The viceRegal partv were entertained at luncheon and inspected the various points of interest. Last night there was a public welcome and reception at the Town Hall, and a further round of festivities has been arranged for today, to-morrow and Saturday—Press Assn.

The Minister of Agriculture (Hon. O. J. Hawken) will return to Wellington from Taranaki on Saturday night.

The Minister of Defence and Justice (Hon. F. J. Rqlleston) returned from the south yesterday. The Minister of Education (Hon. R. A. Wright) will leave on Monday for Blenheim, proceeding on . Wednesday to Christchurch, via Kaikoura and Cheviot. The Minister is expected back in Wellington towards the end of next week.

Mr. T. W. Rhodes, M.P. for Thames, is visiting Wellington.

A Press Association message ron ] Christchurch announces the death of Mr. William Garrard, aged 90 years. Deceased was well known to old-time sportsmen. He came to New Zealand sixty vears ago, settling at Nelson till 1874, when he removed to Christchurch, remaining there till the: time of his death. His sons are Messrs. W. G. Garrard (Christchurch), Joseph Garrard (Lyttelton manager for kmsev and Company), C. W. Garrard (chief inspector of schools. Auckland), and H. F. Garrard (Christchurch).
