“That the city solicitor ;bo authorised to draft the necessary legislation to repeal section 117 Public V\ orks Act with regard to the widening of streets in the city,” was the text of a recommendation made by the By-laws Committee to the City Council last evening After a brief discussion the clause was referred back to the committee. When the Prime Minister passed through Taihape this week on his way to Auckland, about 70 territorials who were returning from camp at Trentliam, supported by a large assemblage of Taihape residents, gathered round the Premier’s carriage and gave three rousing cheers, afterwards singing “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” A 'r.
