TOWN-PLANNING BILL
DELAY TILL NEXT YEAR URGED. Palmerston North, August 18. In a discussion on the Town Planning Bin at the meeting of the Borough Council to-night, the Mayor (Mr. F. Nathan) stated that at the last conference of the Municipal Association it had been decided to ask the Government to bring down such a Bill. Councillor Elliot said that the council had had no opportunity of perusing the Bill and could not say what its effect would be. The council should suggest that the Government postpone further consideration of the Bill for six months or twelve months to enable municipalities to carefully study its clauses. Mr. Nathan stated that a copy of the Bill had been sent to him as president of the Municipal Association. The Bill was then perused and approved. Councillor A. J. Graham said that while the council had every confidence in the Municipal Association he thought the Bill should be delayed until next session. It was decided to write to the Minister of Internal Affairs to this effect.
