.CAMBRIDGE TERRACE ACCIDENT NO BLAME PLACED ON DRIVER An inquest was held by Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M. (Coroner) m the Magistrate’s Court yesterday . into the death of John Samuel Taylor (aged 40j, who was knocked down by a City Corporation motor-bus in Cambridge "1 errace on the evening of July 2, and died while, being conveyed to the hospital Mr. J- O’Shea appeared for the City Council, and Mr. H. F, Johnston for the relatives of deceased. Cecil Westwood, driver of the bus, said that about 8.45 p.in. on July 2 he was driving down Cambridge 1 errace, towards Courtenay Place, at a speed between 10 to 15 miles an hour. It was ,a wet night, anil visibility was not good. The two side lights of the bus were on, and the lights inside were burning. He first saw the deceased three or four yards in front o( the bus. He immediately applied the brakes, and swerved a little to the right, ft was too late, however. He was not sure whether the front left-hand wheel went ©ver deceased, or if he was struck by the front left-hand mudguard. In reply to Mr. Johnston, witness maid that the cornoration buses were supposed to have the side lights going in the city. Gude out of the citv the headlights were turned on. Duncan Alexander Cook, a passenger in the bus, said he saw deceased walk across the road at an angle, when the bus was two or three yards off. The f bus was travelling between 10 and 15 miles an hour, on the proper side of the road. There was no traffic about, and, besides the two front lamps, the lights inside the bus were burning. After further evidence had been heard, the Coroner said that deceased apparently did not know the bus was so close ■when he stunned off the pavement. The driver had taken all steps possible to avoid the accident, and had he had a little more time would have been able to clear the deceased. The verdict would be that deceased died from ininries received through .being accidentally knocked over in Cambridge Terrace bv a municipal bus, driven by Cecil Westwood,
