BANK OF ENGLAND’S GOLD RESERVE
NEED FOR STRENGTHENING. (Rec. July 12, 8.15 p.m.) London, July 12. The “Financial News” states that it is important that the gold reserves of the Bank of England should be strengthened before tlie autumn. It is interesting to learn why no attempt was made to secure part of the surplus gold from Australia which was offered in London some months ago. A trial shipment was made to India, but India found it cheaper to buy from Durban. Four millions sterling had since been sent to the United States During 1925 Australia imported ten millions in gold, but an additional amount of gold now was uneconomic.—Aus.-N.Z Cable Assn.
