BRITISH MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION

«, The fortnightly meeting of the counj oil of the New Zealand Association of British Manufacturers and Agents was held yesterday. Those present were:— Messrs. C. W. Salmon (chairman), B. J. Dunsheath, L. A. Edwards, A. J. Higg, H. J. Tubbs, H. A. Goodwin, R. Johnson, E. A. Christie, H. S. Hart, and L. H. Wood. The members of the council who attended the Hawera Winter Show last week on behalf of the association, which had a stall exhibiting British goods, reported regarding the show._ They considered that on the whole it could certainly be considered satisfactory, the attendance of the public totalling thirty thousand, exclusive of stall-holders and assistants. It was considered, nevertheless, that owing mainly to the shortness of the time tor arranging exhibits, the latter could hardly be considered worthy of British manufactures. The council passed a hearty vote of thanks to Messrs. Edwards, Dunsheath, Rigg, Budd, and Christie, who went to Hawera in this connection. The following British manufacturem were elected members of the association, the names of their representatives being shown in parentheses:—Harry Peck apd Co., Ltd., London (A. A. Stichbtfry, Ltd.); Frv’s (London), Ltd., London (B. J. Dunsheath, Ltd.); Foster Instrument Co., Letchworth, Herts. 08. J. Dunsheath. Ltd.); Duncan, Stewart and Co., Ltd. (B. J. Dunsheath, Ltd.). Letters were received from three other British firms who had heard of the association through the High Commissioner, and asked for particulars. A member brought before the council a cabled report from London to the effect that the British Postmaster-General had decided to discontinue the practice of cancelling stamps with the slogan “British goocls are best,” in response to representations made by the Rotary J l ', 1 ? national Association to the effect that the slogan did not tend to promote friendly relations between Britain and America. It was stated. that, in the meantime, however, inquiries were being made as to the correctness of the cabled report. The various other matters on the order paper were left over till the next meeting.
