The effects of the Workmen’s Compensation Act of New South Wales will be felt for the first time directly in Victoria to-day, when the wholesale price of Newcastle coal will be increased Is. 6d. a ton. It is estimated that the operation of the Act will increase pithead costs bv Is. a ton. Tlie extra 6d. will be added on account of increased wharfage rates.
