Joe Beckett, who should meet Phil Scott for the heavy-weight championship of Britain on the Southampton football ground next Saturday, fell heavily on the floor when shadow boxing. He tore a muscle in the calf of a leg, and will be unable to appear on Saturday. Tom Heeney, the New Zealand heavyweight, has consented to box as substitute for him. Heenci in a twenty rounds contest defeated Tom Berry on points. The contest was fast and strenuous throughout, and was fought mostly at close quarters. Heeney had a stone advantage in weight, and his heavy blows shook the Englishman in the earlier rounds. Berrv improved later, but his blows lacked the power of his opponent. The concluding rounds were exciting.- Renter.
