NEW MECHANIC FOR COBHAM

FLIGHT TO BE CONTINUED London, July 8. The de Haviland Company is sending an engineer to join Mr. A. Cobham in the place of the late A. B. Elliott, the victim of an Arab bullet fired at the passing aeroplane in the marshes of Mesopotamia. On the arrival of the new mechanic the flight to Australia will be definitely continued.—Aus.-N.Z. Havilands are .sending out Moore, a mechanic employed by the makers and the Jaguar engine, used in Cabbam s plane. Moore is at present in Denmark. He will return to England in a few days, and then will go overland to Brindisi, where he will embark for Alexandra. From there he will go by train to Haifa, where he will join a motor convoy to Baghdad. He will then fly to Basra. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable. VAIN EFFORTS TO DRAW ARAB FIRE. Basra, July 8. Mr. Cobham advises that he joined a flight of Air Force machines to find the spot from which the fatal bullet was fired. They located the place within a mile. Drastic steps are being taken to find the author of Elliott’s death. ' Air Force machines fly daily over the spot, but are never fired on. “We flew low near the spot, in an endeavour to draw the Arabs’ fire, but without result,” Cobham concludes.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
