LADIES’ HOCKEY

THIS YEAR’S TOURNAMENT AT INVERCARGILL. The 1926 ladies’ championship hockey tournament will bo held at Invercargill commencing on August 28. A meeting of delegates of the NewZealand Ladies’ Hockey Association was held on Thursday night, at which Air. K. V. King presided. Tho follow, ing delegates were present: —Miss Kitto (Canterbury), Miss Franklin (Feilding), Misses Yorston and Fuller (Otago), Miss London (Wairarapa), Miss Wilkins (Wellington), Miss Gilfedder (Nelson), Miss Welsby (Poverty Bay), Air. W. A. Scott (Auckland), Alt L. S. P. Butcher (South. Canterbury), Mr. Knowles (Alanawatu), Mr. W. Vaughan (Eastern Southland), Mr. R. V. King (Ruahine). It was decided to hold the 1926 ladies’ championship hockey tournament at Invercargill, commencing on August 28. The Southland Association were the unsuccessful applicants for last year’s tournament. This will be the first ladies championship tournament held at Invercargill. All entries must 1:0 in the hands of the secretary of the New Zealand Ladies’ Hockey Association by August 11. An invitation was received from the Australian Ladies’ Hockey Association for a Now Zealand team to compete in the Australian annual carnival <o be held nt Perth in 1927. It was decided to reply that finance did not permit of the invitation being accepted. The Australian Ladies’ Association also wrote regretting Übtt the tour of an English ladies’ team in 1927 prevented the acceptance of an invitation for _rn Australian ladies’ team to tour Nev Zealand in the same year. After furthey discussion the meeting decided to invite an Australian ladies’ team to tourNew Zealand during the 1928 season. Tho English Ladies’ Hockey tion wrote asking whether the New Zealand Ladies’ Association could accept an invitation for a team to tour England. It was decided to reply that the association’s financial position would not at present nermit such a tour being considered. Players would have <o pay all their own travelling expenses to England. The New Zealand Ladies’ Association is endeavouring to secure an extension of the English ladies’ tour that some games may he played here next season
