CANADIAN ELECTION CAMPAIGN

LIBERALS STRESS CONSTITUTIONAL ISSUE

THE MEIGHEN “ONE-MAN GOVERNMENT”

Bi Tei.egbapu.—Press Association. c'OPYHiGHI'. (Rec. July 8, 8.10 p.m.) Ottawa, July 7

It is understood that the Liberal party will make the constitutional issue the keynote of the election campaign, and that they have two proposals in view if returned to power—(l) To hold an autumn session of Parliament for voting supply, and (2) the appointment of a commission to examine the constitutionality of the acts of the Meighen Administration.

The Liberal headquarters issued a statement on Wednesday declaring that Mr. Meighen “constitutes now all that can be designated as a Government in Canada in whatever pertains to Canada’s domestic, iuter-Imperial and international affairs and responsibility. In so far as Ministers are sworn to administer the several departments of government, be is the entire Cabinet and sole executive.” The statement adds, “Either there is in Canada no Government which will be recognised as such by British constitutional practice, or a one-man Government is carrying on with such expedients as he himself is devising.” The election date is not likely to be announced for ten davs. —Aus.-N.Z Cable Assn.
